Update Windows 10 Technical Preview Troubleshooting

Goal:
Update my Windows 10 Technical Preview to the latest build.

Problem:
My build is on 9841

There is a new build available and when searching online I found out that if you want to update you need to go to "PC Settings -> Update and recovery -> Preview builds.

When I go to Update and Recovery there is no such option...

Solution

First I found out that I needed to be logged in as local admin, not as the Microsoft account user I normally use.

So i log in as local admin, and now the option is there.

But when I check for updates, no updates are found.
So I search online and found this site:

So a register edit may be the solution.

I open regedit and go to the key:
Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsSelfHost\Applicability

And there the BranchName is set on tbl_awesome1501 I change this to tbl_release and close the register editor.

Now I check again and a update is found:

After downloading is complete I can click the [Install now] button

After a little while:

And there it is. Windows 10 build 9879

Eclipse java programming for Maximo 7.5 - Setup.

Goal:
Modify a bit of Maximo functionality through a Java modification


Problem:
I do not have the tools needed to do this.


Solution:
I need to install the tools needed to modify/create java files. 
For this we need to download and then install Eclipse

Download it from: http://www.eclipse.org/downloads/
I used the Eclipse IDE for Java Developers (64 bit)

I follwed these steps:

I extract the downloaded zip to the E:\
From the E:\eclipse folder I run the 'eclipse.exe'

I get the Java error like stated in the post from Bruno:

I copy the jre folder from the Webshere/Appserver folder to the e:\eclipse folder and run eclipse.exe again

Now it starts.

As workspace i use 'E:\Workspace'

Since I will work with Maximo 7.5 I use the Compiler compliance level 1.6 (Windows ->  Preferences)

Now I create a new Java Project

Extract the maximo.ear into the workspace

In the Package explorer after doing a Refresh (F5) the maximo folder shows up.

The I go to Project -> Properties and select the JAva build path.
In the Libraries tab I click [Add JARs]

And add the following jars:

• maximo/lib/*.jar

Filter on *.jar and select all the jar files. (On the picture below, only the bottom of the list is shown)

• maximo/businessobjects.jar

The list looks like this:

Then I create a folder structure in my project by Right Clicking on the src folder and adding folders.

I do this until I got this:

In the custom.app.asset I right click and create a new Class

With the info from the example of Bruno his blog:

Now the explanation on Bruno his post stops, He writes:
The custom Mbo class gets quickly compiled and is ready to be deployed on your Maximo server.

Eeuhhh ok... But how do I compile, or this done automatically?
And how do I deploy the custom Mbo? What do i need to do in Maximo to let it use the custom Mbo?

First I use:

and find out the compiling is done automatically

Some picture and my 'doings' to go along with it:

First I save the Project, then I look around a bit I see that in the Project menu there is a Check at "Build Automatically" and the build option is grayed out. This must mean that my .java is already build to .class. 

Then I look in the properties for the project and go to the Java Build Path option and look on the "Source tab" I see the Default output folder.

In Explorer I check this folder, and there is my class file.

I copy this files (and the folder structure) to:
E:\ibm\SMP\maximo\applications\maximo\businessobjects\classes

I rebuild and redeploy the ear file.

• buildmaximoear.cmd
• uninstall maximo application from websphere
• install maximo application in websphere

Redeploying this way is very slow, especially when develping and testing, so for future reference I will use one of these methods:

After starting, MXServer is started, but the MAXIMO appliciation not.

I synchronise the nodes by stopping the node and then starting the node

Then restart the MXServer.

Now MAXIMO starts

Now in Maximo I point the Asset object to the custom class:

The original class is: (I have a scheduler and HSE installtion on this machine, so that is why the plusg class is the original)
psdi.plusg.app.asset.PlusGAssetSet

I point it to:
custom.app.asset.AssetCust

Set Maximo to Admin Mode and do a Database Configuration

Now when I go to the Asset application I get all invalid bindings and when trying to insert a new asset I get the following error:

BMXAA4160E - A major exception has occurred. Check the system log to see if there are any companion errors logged. Report this error to your system administrator.

custom.app.asset.AssetCust.<init>(psdi.mbo.MboServerInterface)

hmmm ok... Am i extending the wrong class in mu Custom made class? Maybe because of the HSE isntalaltion I need to extend that class?

I read through Bruno his blog and on the Extending Java page he explaines that the "Set" must also be extended.

This makes sense as I replaced a "Set" class with a non "Set" class in the Database Configuration.

So back to Eclipse.
I add another class file, named AssetCustSet with the following code:

I restart the MXServer.

Then, instead of pointing the asset object to custom.app.asset.AssetCust I point it to custom.app.asset.AssetCustSet

I do a database configuration and go to the Asset application. Now the applciation shows up normally.
I change an asset and insert a new one.
Now I check the systemOut.log

The lines from the code show up in the log. So it works.

Install Maximo HSE Add-on 7.5.1 on Maximo 7.5.0.6 that also has Scheduler 7.5.2

Example:
I want to use Maximo HSE on my Maximo 7.5.0.6 environment.

Environment:
Windows Server 2012, Oracle 11g

How to:

Note; You do not need to stop the MXServer before you begin, the MXServer will however be shutdown in one of the following steps.


Run the Launchpad.exe as administrator

Click the "Install Product" on the left, and then click the "IBM Maximo Health, Safety and Environment Manager 7.5.1" link.

After a few seconds the TPAE (Tivoli's Process Automation Engine) screen should pop up.Click [OK]

In the next screen click [Next]

Accept the licence agreement (If you agree with it) and click [Next]

Check both the options and click [Next], we want to update and redeploy manually in this case.

The following screen took a little while (5 minutes) for me to complete.

After that the System Check begins

In the Pre-Install Summary click [Next]

The Deployment begins and the Deployment Progress is shown

After a short while the system shows that the Package was Successfully Deployed.
Click [Next]

Then the Installation of the Process Solution Package begins

Without any warning this screen closes.
So first I go and run the solutionsinstaller.bat to check my current versions.

In a command prompt I go to E:\ibm\SMP\bin and enter: ‘solutionsInstaller.bat –action showinstalled –type all’

The HSE package is showing here.

Now i need to complete the installation by running UpdateDB and redeploying the ear file.

First the updateDB.

I a command prompt go to E:\IBM\smp\maximo\tools\maximo and run ‘updateDB.bat’

I first need to stop the MXServer 

The I reptry the UpdateDB

Now the update runs

This can take a while. Since there a a lot of columns added to the workorder table, this table needs to be updated. Since some new fields are YorN fields the 0 or 1 value needs to be inserted and in a bigger database with load of workorder information this can really take up a lot of time.

I also encountered problems on a Oracle RAC environment, the upgrade took over 20 hours. When checking the log (UpdatedbTIMESTAMP.log on E:\ibm\SMP\maximo\tools\maximo\log) i learned it was mainly the update statements. So in that case I exported the DB to a VM, did the upgrade and exported the DB back to the RAC. This was much faster... Somehow the RAC wasn't helping in updating the records. 

Now in this example the UpdateDB took 20 minutes.

Next I rebuild the ear file and redeploy it in websphere.

Start the MXServer.
TXServer starts, but the MAXIMO application doesn't start. In the SystemOut.log the following error is printed:

I use the same steps to solve this:

First I stop the MXServer again.

Then open a dosbox as Administrator and navigate to E:\ibm\Websphere\AppSever\bin and run the command ‘stopNode.bat’

Run the command  ‘startNode.bat’

Then I start the MXServer again. Now the MAXIMO application starts without a problem.

Log in to Maximo and get the proof of the HSE installation (Help -> System Information)
